PEARL is definitely a gem.  Unlike most double merle shelties, she is not heavily disabled.  She can hear and has vision out of one eye.  Her foster family says she has been very easy to live with and work on training.   Pearl is also very lucky as her devoted foster family that lives in the Denver area have three shelties of their own, two of which are also double merle (white) shelties to which they have also been very successful in teaching a number of hand signals for easier communication.  Pearl's family tells us that her jovial and outgoing personality has only added to their enjoyment and that everyone that meets her is very smitten with her as well.

Although this color of sheltie is definitely not a desired outcome, and only due to improper breeding practices,  often these highly sensitive and motivational dogs make wonderful companion pets.  In the case of this family's dogs, we would like to encourage them to possibly consider working in a Pet Therapy Program one day, too.
